Tomorrow is New Years Eve! Ah the new year, for most a time to start fresh and start new years resolutions. For most or at least a large percentage, weight loss or health and fitness will be at the top of resolutions. I guess for me I don't have much of a resolution. I just want be better in all areas of my life than the year before. I don't need leaps and bounds although I won't complain if it turns out that way. I'll still be happy with small improvements.
For those that are reading and are fitness revolution minded, I have a new work out to start the new year.
The new workout is Les Mills Combat. Its the newest in the ever expanding line of workouts by Beachbody. Combat is a 60 day workout based on mixed martial arts and uses explosive fat-burning, strength-building moves from 6 major martial arts disciplines. The disciplines include; karate, tae kwon do, boxing, muay thai/kickboxing, capoeira, and jiu-jitsu. Combat comes in three different package options. Base kit which is just the basic DVDs, Supreme Warrior Package which comes with DVDs and training gloves, and Ultimate Warrior Package which comes with DVDs, gloves, and four additional workouts. Also if you order through a coach (me), you get a bonus DVD (Combat 30: Live). This program should be lots of fun for those that really liked kenpo in P90X or capoeira from Rev Abs. Combat is also for those at a beginning fitness level looking to enjoy fun, energetic moves that ramp up their cardio, burn off their fat, and lean out their muscles.
I have been looking forward to starting this program. I will be doing the Ultimate Warrior schedule. I am just coming off two rounds of Body Beast and am looking forward to getting back into the extra cardio. After the Ultimate Reset I went straight into Body Beast and gained fifteen pounds. The extra size is nice but I know my cardio and flexibility took a small hit. Tomorrow starts my new year off and its time to lean out. I'll keep you posted and as they say on the videos "Stay with the Fight".

Ultimate Reset Complete
The last time I blogged about the Ultimate Reset I was on day 6, now I am one week out of finishing it. My 21 day journey ended well and was enjoyable for me. If you would have asked me two years ago if I'd ever go vegan I would have said "that's crazy and no way". Well times have changed in terms of my fitness and my mind set about eating.
So how did I do it, Mr. never going to try being a vegan. Well the program is very well laid out with what to eat on each day. It was really more about the mental rather than the physical with this. The one thing for sure is I am always determined to finish a workout program, therefore this time I took the mind set that this was really just another workout program but this time it was for my insides. I didn't starve myself, I didn't lose muscle mass, and I didn't become sickly looking. What I did was become as of today is 13 lbs. lighter and feeling healthy, and also much more conscious of what I put into my body to fuel it.
I would recommend the Reset for anyone. It is getting some outstanding and astonishing results, with some dropping their cholesterol by as much as 40 points. The main thing is to keep an open mind and be willing to try new foods. I tried and liked foods that before I would never imagined I would be eating. The menu was very good and it taught me how to prepare food to be very simple and flavorful. There are things I am still cooking and will be a part of my normal nutrition regimen from now on. Along with the food, the new Vegan Chocolate Shakeology is amazing and is my new favorite.
This was not a huge transition for me because I ate fairly healthy to begin with. My advice is do your homework about the Ultimate Reset. I did my homework and listen to others that had done this before I did and had such a great support group through each phase of it on Facebook. My friend dropped out after 3 days due to not reading up on this and really seeing what he had to do. I'm here to tell you, you will have to prep and cook and again be willing to try new things. If your not use to that this will be an adjustment for you but it shouldn't be a road block.
There are so many valuable lessons to learn from an experience like this that you owe it to yourself to give it a go. What have you got to lose except some bad habits and maybe a few pounds and possible points off your counts.

Ultimate Reset Day 6
Today was day 6 of the Ultimate Reset. Had a really good morning, I got up and had a good amount of energy. I went for a 3 mile walk/run which ended up being more of a run/walk. I felt so good running, I had to make myself back off because I didn't want to over do it to where I would want or need a recovery drink.
I have to say I am loving the menu and really starting to love cooking. The menu has some simple things that are just full of flavor. It makes me want to look up more vegan food recipes. Its amazing how different food choices make you feel. I still plan on getting some meat and a little dairy back in, but I could honestly get use to eating this way. The only thing I miss is my normal Shakeology. I have been enjoying the tropical vegan Shakeology and my new chocolate vegan Shakeology should be here in a few days.
Overall I have to say I am loving the Reset so far, detox week starts on Monday. In case you are wondering, YES I miss working out but the rest has been nice and needed. This break and the Reset should lead to better performance and results.

Ultimate Reset Day 4
It's been a little while since I last blogged but here goes. At last we met I was in the midst of a hybrid of P90X/Insanity/P90X2 and a little of Asylum mixed in. I made it through to day 84. I ended it a little early to start a new journey... The Ultimate Reset. For those that don't know about it, it's one of Beachbody's newest programs based on nutrition.
What is The Ultimate Reset? Simply its a 21 day program in three phases designed to improve your energy, digestion, complexion, nutrient absorption, and increased clarity and focus. During the program you will also be nurturing your mind, body and spirit through conscious lifestyle choices and techniques.
The Three Phases
Reclaim
Release
Restore
I started this journey with a friend that wanted to give it a go and asked for motivation and support. So far we are on day 4 and doing great. The adjustment hasn't been bad for me, minimal headaches mainly from being off any pre-workout supplements. I am really enjoying the program thus far and enjoying all the cooking and food prep. The first three days for my friend have been a bit rough. The main problem has been inconsistent diet. I eat fairly clean and that has helped. However if you are use to eating what ever you may adjust way different.
The menu has been fairly easy to prepare, and the food has been flavorful and good. After today there is no more dairy. I have been pleasantly surprised by what I have made so far. At this point I probably will not be buying store bought dressing anymore, or microwave products unless I'm in a real pinch like traveling or something of that nature. I am starting to like to cook and feel I am a better and smarter grocery shopper. All in all it will be worth the journey.
It does take some time and some smart shopping but hey anything worth having takes work. Whats Tony Horton say "Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was your body".

During the program you will also be nurturing your mind, body and spirit through conscious lifestyle choices and techniques.
The Three Phases
Reclaim
In PHASE 1, you Reclaim your body, balancing its inner chemistry and preparing it for change—much like soap loosens grime.
Release
In PHASE 2, you Release the toxic compounds that are
clogging your cells and stored within your tissues—like a purifying
surge of clear water that flushes away years of impurities.
Restore
In Phase 3, you Restore your metabolism to maximum
efficiency, while fortifying your body with the nutrients, enzymes, and
probiotics it needs to maintain healthy performance in the future.

Hybrid P90X/Insanity/P90X2 Day 20
Today was day 20 of my hybrid workout. The day started with Insanity; Fast and Furious. Today was supposed to be Base and Back but I wanted to switch it up a little. I followed Insanity up with P90X One on One; On one leg for legs. Needless to say I am toast. This was my first time doing this workout but I love that leg workout, the brutal part was one legged wall squats towards the end. This one worked my core like crazy because of the balance work involved. Hard to believe I'm on day 20 already. I'm going to look into putting Asylum into the mix once I get to the P.A.P. portion of this workout. So far I'm feeling good and knowing my challenge group buddies are doing well helps drive me more.

Day 15 Hybrid
I had to do some foam rolling this morning because my calf and hamstring muscles were really tight. I am trying out some new shoes, Skeletoes AMP by FILA, a new minimalistic athletic shoe. Really feeling it in my left calf, but so far I love these shoes.
I have still been adding the extra Insanity workout on some days because I am helping a friend with some cardio. Insanity-Fast and Furious is good because its a twenty minute workout that torches some calories and gets you going with max intervals.
I gotta say I still love this hybrid. So far my core continues to get stronger and feel like I am seeing good results 15 days in. I missed doing P90X and some of the Insanity workouts while I was doing P90X2. This gives me all three and kills some major calories. The workouts are easy compared to the extra calories I need to eat to keep up, but hey it will all be worth it.
More to come...

My Journey with P90X2
My Journey with P90X2,
Those that have read some of my blogs know what some of the P90X2 workouts were like for me. The number one question asked is "Do you like it better than P90X?" and "which is better?". So here's my take on it and what I got out of it.
First I don't think one is better than the other, you don't have to have done P90X to do X2. However you will be at a better point with the program if you have done at least one round of P90X. I like both programs the same. I plan to continue to do both and mix them into hybrid workouts. For me the best thing about X2 was the use of the foam roller and the emphasis on hip work. I think for me X2 exposed more of my body's weak points. I never knew I held so much tension in my calves and my hips were a area of concern because my left hip popped some and I could really feel it on certain cardio days. The use of the foam roller and the P.A.P. workouts really helped me to improve problem areas. Since I have done X2 and used the foam roller (Rumble Roller®) my hips are so much stronger, no popping now and I know and can focus more on my tight areas.
P90X is just a good foundation for X2, again you don't have to do P90X first certainly if you have went through Insanity Asylum you can do X2. It all depends on what you're up to. If you have never done a fitness program then I would not recommend X2 to be your first. P90X is 90 days of muscle confusion and X2 can be a little longer or a little shorter.
P90X is the foundation and then X2 builds on that with more core work and athleticism training. The following link will explain the differences a little better by the man himself Tony Horton .... so here you go X & X2.
Now would I buy both?..... Of course! Fitness in many ways is a journey, P90X for some is the start of the journey while X2 for others is a continuation of that journey. I feel you should always be looking for ways to challenge yourself and improve, you get out of it what you put into it. As Tony would say "Variety is the spice of life".
For me X2 was 100 days which included the final fit test.
The reason it ended up being 99 or 100 days with my fit test is because I spent extra time in some of the weeks. Phase 1 and Phase 2 are meant to be from three to six weeks long. During Phase 1, I spent four weeks because I wanted to get the most from it and have the moves down before I went on. During Phase 2, I spent six weeks. Three were spent doing the pre-set routine, and the next three were spent doing the alternate workouts they give you for this phase. I then took a recovery week as set in the program before I took on Phase 3 and P.A.P. (Post Activation Potentiation). Phase 3 is intended to be from three to four weeks. I did three weeks of Phase 3.
Why three weeks in Phase 3 instead of four? I just wanted to switch it up, I spent six weeks in Phase 2 but switched it up after three weeks. I was just trying to keep my body guessing. My numbers in the final fit test improved and I lost some inches which was great.
After pondering it a while I have decided to do a hybrid of P90X, X2, and Insanity. Last week I did almost a full week of Insanity workouts with the exception of doing Ployocide from X2 and did a day of X2 Recovery + Mobility. I miss doing Insanity and I see great results from it. The first time I did it I dropped 15 pounds, so that's why I want to incorporate it. Mixing the three gives me the best of all three worlds.
Today was day one of the hybrid with X2 Chest, Back and Balance and some X2 Ab Ripper. I'll keep you posted how its going.

Day 98 P90X2 Journey
Today is day 98 of my P90X2 journey. Workout of the day was P.A.P. Upper followed by some X2 Ab Ripper. Tomorrow will be Recovery + Mobility as my last workout of the program.
The reason it ended up being 99 or 100 days with my fit test on Monday is because I spent extra time in some of the weeks. Phase 1 and Phase 2 are meant to be from three to six weeks long. During Phase 1, I spent four weeks because I wanted to get the most from it and have the moves down before I went on. During Phase 2, I spent six weeks. I then took a recovery week as set in the program before I took on Phase 3 and P.A.P. (Post Activation Potentiation). Phase 3 is intended to be from three to four weeks. Tomorrow will conclude the third week of Phase 3.
Why three weeks in Phase 3 instead of four? I just want to switch it up, I spent six weeks in Phase 2 but switched it up after three weeks. I am just trying to keep my body guessing.
I will most likely move on to a hybrid of either P90X, Insanity, Asylum with P90X2. I haven't decided just yet and am considering getting the new Tai Cheng workout. I have gotten great results over the past year and just want to keep moving and adding variety because that's what my body seems to respond to.
I will blog on my thoughts of X2 once I end my Fit Test on Monday. Until then enjoy your weekend and get out and get active, either by yourself or more importantly with your family.

Day 70-72 P90X2 Journey
My day 70 was Base and Back. Love that workout, and its a tough one. When I first sampled it in Tony Horton's MC2 One on One series, I referred to it as puke in bucket. You jump from a back exercise(Pull ups galour) to plyometric moves for your legs. Its at a fast pace so you get a nice burn and pump.
This was my last Base and Back workout for a little while as I will be moving into a new phase after a recovery week.
Day 71 was a rest day, a much needed day to take it easy before the next phase. I did some sun salutations to start the day and then spent the rest of it playing with my kids chasing them around the house and playing hide and go seek. Did not want to do Recovery + Mobility since I had to do it today, not that I couldn't but just wanted to take it easy.
Healthy is as Healthy Does!
Until next time :)

It has usefulness to other programs but I'll let you refer back to those posts. I am looking forward to doing yoga several times this week and more foam rolling as well. I still plan on getting some ab work in and I may do some light cardio work. Looking very forward to doing the next phase which is P.A.P. (Post Activation Potentiation). I'll blog about that one later, for now I'm off to get some rest and recovery.
Until next time :)

Day 68-69 P90X2 Journey
Yesterday was day 68 of X2- Chest, Shoulders, and Tri's. One of my favorite workouts in X2, it blends some the old with new variations of moves. You get a great pump and man do you use the medicine balls in this one.
Today was day 69 of X2, workout of the day was X2 Yoga. I like this workout but am torn if I like the P90XMC2 One on One routine better. I think the best thing to do is mix it up between X2, Yoga X and all the ones in the One on One series. Again variety is the spice of life. Still X2 gets the job done at only just over an hour, the P90X person that didn't enjoy Yoga X should like this one. I have found great benefits of yoga over the last couple of years in all my other workouts, so I think you eventually learn to love Yoga X once you see its benefits and how it can shape your body. Looking forward to next weeks Recovery week, lots of yoga and foam rolling.

Day 67 P90X2 Journey
Today is day 67 of X2. Recovery + Mobility was the workout. This by far has been one of the best things for me in this series and will continue to be something I use for any workout program I do in the future. This video introduces you to the foam roller more particularly the Rumble Roller®. This is one of the best pieces of equipment I own and has been an asset in my recovery. I blogged last week (Knot, Kinks, and Rollie things) about the use of rollers and how they work, also there was a good piece about them in the Beachbody newsletter Foam Rolling: Your Tight Muscles' Best Friend. Again highly recommend their use for many workout programs. The Rumble Roller has been my calves, hamstrings and biceps best friend.
Love recovery day and do it twice a week in this program. I would recommend getting a roller and trying it out before and after your next workout.

Day 66 P90X2 Journey
Today was day 66. On the slate was Plyocide, this is the last week I will do it for about a month unless I add it to a day for the extra cardio. Overall getting better at everything in the series. Toughest moves in Plyocide (IMO), 1. Jack in the Box Jump knee Tucks, 2. Frog Burpee Hops, and 3. Run, Plank, Plyo, Jump series. These moves just get the heart racing. Got it in, got it done, and then did some Hip Hop Abs Extreme abs just to polish myself off.
So here I am in day 66 of this journey with my recovery drink in hand getting ready to take on the day, after breakfast of course! And Whats the Healthiest Meal of the Day .....? Click here to find out.
Until next time :)

Day 65 P90X2 Journey
Today was day 65 of X2 and my 382nd workout in WOWWY! Looking forward to my 400th. Today was V Sculpt, one of my favorite workouts. Its a pull/ pull day so you can't help but get a pump. This is the last week of my strength phase, if you loved P90X you'll love this phase.
I spent four weeks in the first phase, and then went straight into phase two and have been in it for six weeks. I will do a recovery week next week and then onto the last phase for three weeks.
So far still love this workout and can't wait to try some type of hybrid. X2 comes with a P90X2/Asylum hybrid. I'm going to take a look at it more but may end up trying something on my own.
Until next time :)

Knots, Kinks, and Roly things
For those that have been to any basketball pre-game warm-ups and been there early enough to watch the team stretch, you may have seen them using a twelve or thirty one inch long round piece of foam. You also may have wondered, What is that thing for?. Over the years these practices have been adopted from a European inspired process that focuses on a hands-on type of message on soft tissue.
Basically foam rolling is for myofascial release, or a self message for (MAT) Muscle Activation,
and (ART) Active Release Therapy.
Well, what is a foam roller, and how do you use a foam roller?
A foam roller is a cylindrical piece of some type of hard-celled foam. Kind of like pool noodles, larger in diameter and much more dense and around 12-32 inches long. Some rollers are smooth and some have ridges or bumps/knobs on them. Most come in an array of colors. I have also seen some that are hollow with a hard ridge inside. Its best to try a few types out and see what works best for you.
Initially the use of the foam roller was used as an acupressure technique rather than a message technique. How you use it is simple. You use the foam roller to apply pressure to sore and sensitive muscles by applying your body weight. These sensitive areas are known as trigger points, knots, or kinks. These areas are typically areas that have more muscle density. You apply pressure by adding your body weight in certain areas on top of the roller. You sit on and or roll over these areas to release tension.
Now how does this apply to your world? Well you don't have to be an elite athlete to get the benefits of foam rolling. They are very useful to those that jog, run, or just work out. I was introduced to foam rolling through P90X2. Every workout incorporates the use of foam rolling except yoga. By nature I am very flexible, not to say I don't need to work at it because I do. However foam rolling has exposed some areas in my body that I need to work on. I never realized how much tension was in my calves and quads. These areas don't give me major problems when I work out, but boy do I feel it when I use the foam roller.
I also recently watched a video by Dr. Mark Cheng explains plantar fasciitis Click Here Dr Cheng video. He explains how problems in the feet may be linked to the tendons and muscles in the calf as they all tie into one another. I wouldn't think my feet hurt because I have tight calf muscles. The point is that we all may have trouble points in our bodies that are tied to another weakness area and not even know it.
I recommend the use of foam rolling to anyone doing P90X, P90X2, Insanity, Insanity Asylum, or Turbo Fire. If you are a runner or do any type of intense workouts I would highly recommend trying foam rolling. See if it exposes areas you need to work on more and see what added benefits it may bring to your fitness.

Time, Practice, Patience
This past week I had someone tell me they just could not get into shape. Another person told me they had done P90X, lost 35-40 pounds but once they were done with 90 days they stopped and the weight came back. Here is the deal it takes Time, Practice, and above all Patience. Its the one clear thing that's mentioned in as I do P90X2. You don't just stop, you have to find new things and new goals to keep you going.
If one round of any program doesn't get you where you want to be just remember it takes time. It might take one person one round where it may take someone else 9 rounds.
The phrase practice makes perfect comes in here. You may have to tweak your nutrition. Many find that they have to increase their calories, and once they do the fat seemingly drops off. You have to practice your nutrition just as much as you do the exercises.
Be patient with the program you are on and most of all yourself. Many years of bad food choices and exercise choices have past by and you can't change it over night. If over the last thirteen years you have been out of shape, you wont get into shape in fifteen days and may not get to where you want to be in even fifteen weeks. Be patient with YOU. Set small achievable goals and once you do they will snowball into greater successes.
I personally have gone through a few rounds of P90X as well as a few other programs over the last year. I have done more tweaking to my nutrition than anything. Variety of programs and variety of good nutrition like Shakeology have taken me to better places physically and mentally. I'm in better shape now than I ever was in my twenty's and its taken me time, practice, and patience.

I'd like to try a Combo
A combo in today’s world is usually in reference to some type of fast food meal. Burger and fries, Sandwich with chips and a drink, slice of pizza and bread sticks, Chinese food- meat and rice w/vegetables etc..., the list could go on and on. This is what most people think of when they hear the word combo.
Growing up for the most part in high school I was no different. Combos were and still are a value. You get more bang for your buck as one could say. You get more food for your money to help satisfy your hunger.
Now on to another type of combo.
In fighting a combo is a combination of strikes, punches, kicks or both performed in rapid succession, usually from a stand-up position. You have heard of the one two punch in a fight. It is typically the combo that wins the fight.
In health and fitness a combo would be proper nutrition combined with exercise. This is not the preferred combo by the average American. However this is the only way to successful weight loss and sustaining it, and it’s the only way to a healthy life. You can't just work out and eat junk and think it will work. You also cannot eat just ok and not workout and think things will be fine.
So here we are. What do you want?
A fast food combo? Think of it this way, fast food equals a fast track to fat and unhealthy.
Or the other option, do you want a healthy and fit combo?
Challenge packages are the perfect combo to get fit. You get fitness programs that are proven to get results. Now combine that with Shakeology, a proven nutrition choice and you have the perfect
one-two combination to win the fight. You also get more bang for your buck.
Are you up for a challenge? Could you use a better combo in your life?
Pick a combo and fight, I promise you’ll feel better and look better.
Now how’s that for a combo?

Food is a Matter of Life and Death
I like to stay positive but since I watched the clips from the film Food Matters some things have bothered me. I posted the clip on my wall on Facebook and figured this could be good motivation. For years I have known people, my mother being one, whose doctors tell them they’re in good health for their weight, or your fine for your size. What a load of crap. I am not saying all doctors don’t have your best interest in mind, but come on. Lets not dance around the situation, they know very well if you don’t change things you’ll be back for prescriptions for the “fix all” which keeps them in business and the pharmaceutical industry making huge profits. My mom now has diabetes and my grandmother had it.
My mom for at least the last several years has asked about exercises and diet advice and for years I have given it. The worst part is she has diabetes because she didn’t want to really change, the really sad part is when she went to her new doctor and nutritionist they told her all the same things I have been saying. They now have told her if she doesn’t get it together they will put her on meds. Now they have her attention.
All I am saying is you have a choice, be healthy or not, to eat right or not. In the last year I have gone through a load heavy to bear sometimes and I have a choice – sit and feel sorry about the situation, get depressed and see a doctor I can’t afford, be on meds I can’t afford, or dig down and take control of what I can – my health!
Please watch the Food Matters clip, it makes sense. Being healthy is good for you but not for your doctor or the pill companies. My father is a doctor and my kids and family have wonderful doctors. You all probably have great doctors. I am not saying don’t go to the doctor or don’t trust your doctor. I think most doctors do have your best interest at heart, but go for the things you need to be there for. There is a difference between being sick and allowing your self to be sick. Be healthy for your family, your kids, or your future family, above all be healthy for you.
This all leads me to my quote for the week for you. I saw this on a sticker and thought how true – “The next time you see your doctor ask him if getting off your ass is right for you!”. I hope you all have a great week.
